Sharpton: Obama Not Civil Rights Leader

Al Sharpton said that he does not consider President Barack Obama to be a civil rights leader.

“Do I think he’s a civil rights leader? No,” Sharpton said, according to Politico. “I think he’d be the first person to tell you that.”

Sharpton said Obama understands that Sharpton is an “activist” and that he understands Obama is the president.

“We found a respect for each other’s different roles,” Sharpton said, noting some want Obama to “be the civil rights leader that brings issues to himself. The president can’t lead a march on himself.”
