Man Helps Blind Colleague to Safety During Navy Yard Shooting
Chris Moody at Yahoo! News captured a heroic moment on camera amid the chaos at the U.S. Navy Yard in Washington, D.C. Monday—a man helping his blind colleague.
Linwood, who did not provide his last name, is visually impaired and uses a walking stick. When Omar Grant heard gunshots, he did not immediately head towards the military base's exit. Instead, he took Linwood by the arm and helped him out.
"We heard two shots and started wondering if that was the sound of someone dropping something or if they were really shots," Grant told Yahoo News. "We heard three more shots, and that's when people started running out of the building and getting the hell out of there."
Grant did not leave his colleague once they were outside. He stayed with Linwood until he was on the train.
