Carney Stonewalls on Funding Parks and Monuments Reopening: 'It's a Gimmick'

Confronted on why President Obama and Democrats refuse to support standalone funding for reopening national monuments, White House press secretary Jay Carney dismissed concerns about that issue, suggesting the entire government had to be funded all at once – even after President Obama signed into law specific funding for national defense.

“[T]hat’s not how this works,” Carney said. “It’s a gimmick and it’s unsustainable and it’s not serious. And the lack of seriousness in their approach has ben demonstrated again and again and again….If they think those functions ought to be open, open the government.”
