Jay Carney: Pro-Russian Protests in Ukraine 'Not Organic,' Similar to Soviet Russia
White House Press Secretary Jay Carney told reporters today that the pro-Russian protests currently taking place in Ukraine did not appear to be organic.
“There is such overwhelming evidence to suggest otherwise,” Carney said, when asked about the protests, pointing out that the some organizers were not local, received pay, and had military equipment.
“It’s kind of a heavy handed approach but an approach that Russia has familiar with having taken it in the past, and in the Soviet past, but it’s not fooling anybody,” Carney explained.
Carney, who worked as a TIME correspondent in Moscow for three years, reminded reporters of his experience with Russian behavior.
“I have a little experience with this,” Carney said. “You know it when you see it, and it’s just not on the level.”
Carney was not asked by reporters about the two posters of Soviet propaganda he has hanging from the walls in his home.
