Prop 8 Movie May Happen with Rob Reiner to Direct

It looks like the director of Stand By Me, This Is Spinal Tap and A Few Good Men is waiting for the ending of his next project.

Rob Reiner says he'll be making a feature film about the battle over Proposition 8, the California law forbidding same-sex marriages. Only the real-life saga behind the legislation is still in legal flux.

The film would be based on Oscar-winning screenwriter Dustin Lance Black's "8," a play that used transcripts from the 2010 trial that struck down the law as the source material for an all-star retelling of the case....

litany of tinseltown's biggest names performed in the play's inaugural showing, including George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Jane Lynch, Martin Sheen, Kevin Bacon, Jamie Lee Curtis, Christine Lahti, George Takei, John C. Reilly, Chris Colfer, Matthew Morrison and Jesse Tyler Ferguson....

The movie's team is waiting to see what happens on the SCOTUS front before moving forward.

Such a film's box office potential appears limited, but award season voters may given it plenty of love given the project's likely stance on the matter. Reiner is in favor of same-sex marriage as is Black, the openly gay screenwriter who won an Oscar for his work on the 2008 film Milk.
