Updated: AP Breaks News Wires' Silence on NBC Firing 17 Hours Later

UPDATED: Following the publication of this post, the Associated Press has drafted a wire of the firing story, a full 17 hours after the story broke on the NYT's Media Decoder blog. The original story continues below.

The Associated Press, Reuters, and AFP have declined to cover NBC's firing of the "seasoned" producer of a "TODAY" news segment which manipulated a 911 recording, making George Zimmerman appear racist.

The story, covered Friday evening by Breitbart News, Newsbusters, and a New York Times blog, has yet to appear in the news wires of the three popular companies. The most recent mention of NBC or NBC News is an early Thursday-morning Reuters piece referenced in John Sexton's Breitbart report.

The article describes the NBC internal investigation but does not mention the firing, as it reportedly occurred later in the day on Thursday. NBC will not name the producer in question, but Reuters describes the individual as "seasoned."
