Roll Call Reporter Implies Lawmakers Demanding Offsets Aren't Concerned About Tornado Victims

As Oklahomans were suffering after Monday’s devastating tornado, Roll Call reporter Meredith Shiner callously wondered on Twitter if Republican lawmakers who were tweeting “thoughts and prayers” to the victims of the deadly tornado would demand that disaster aid be offset.

Though it was later reported that Republican Oklahoma Senator Tom Coburn, a fiscal hawk, intends to ask that aid even to his home state be offset with spending cuts elsewhere in the budget, Shiner’s tweet implied that asking for offsets and genuinely praying for and being concerned about the tornado victims are mutually exclusive.
