WH: No 'Rush to War' in Syria
On Sunday, White House chief of staff Denis McDonough said that the Obama administration would not be rushing to war in Syria, and implicitly accused the Bush White House of rushing to war in Iraq. “We’ve rushed to war in this region in the past,” McDonough said. “We’re not going to do it here.”
He said that the White House would be “discerning” in acting in Syria, especially regarding “what’s in our interest and what outcome is best for us and the prices we’re willing to pay to get to that place …. One of the reasons we’re doing the extensive efforts that we have done in terms of understanding who the opposition is, is to make sure we can coordinate with our friends and our allies.”
McDonough did not define who America’s friends and allies are in a country in which an Iranian proxy-regime fights an al-Qaeda-led insurgency.
