Wikileaks Source Bradley Manning Sentenced to 35 Years

Wikileaks source Bradley Manning was sentenced to 35 years and dishonorably discharged from the Army on August 21. According to France24.com, Manning “stood ashen-faced” as he was sentenced at “a U.S. court marshal facility… at Ft. Meade, Maryland.”

Military judge Colonel Denise Lind said, “You are sentenced to 35 years and ordered to be dishonorably discharged.”

The Washington Post reports that Manning is “required to serve one third” of his 35 year sentence, “minus three and a half years of time served, before he is eligible for parole,” making him eligible for parole in eight years.

In July, Manning was convicted on multiple counts, including violations of the Espionage Act. He committed his crimes while serving as “an intelligence analyst at a forward operating base in Iraq.” His crimes included “copying and disseminating” classified documents.
