International Olympic Committee VP: Rio Olympic Preparations the 'Worst' Ever
International Olympic Committee (IOC) vice president John Coates says preparations for the Rio Olympics are the "worst" he has ever seen.
He said, "The situation is critical on the ground."
According to the BBC, this assessment comes as Brazil faces a deadline "to be ready in time for the Fifa World Cup, which starts in 44 days."
Coates has been "involved in the Olympics for nearly 40 years" and says the situation in Rio calls for a new approach: "The IOC has adopted a more hands-on role. It is unprecedented for the IOC, but there is no plan B. We are going to Rio."
He said organizers in Rio are "not ready in many, many, ways," so the IOC has "to make it happen."
"You can't walk away from this," he added.
