US Airstrikes in Syria Light Up Social Media

On Monday night, the United States and five Arab countries–Saudi Arabia, Qatar, United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, and Jordan–conducted airstrikes against the Islamic State (ISIS) and other radical Islamist terrorist groups in Syria. Social media immediately lit up with alleged photos and videos of the attacks. Other social media accounts uploaded videos that allegedly showed the aftermath of the airstrikes, none of which have been confirmed.

The Jihad News Twitter account claims this video shows the U.S. attack on the Jabhat al-Nusra Front headquarters in Kafrdiyan.

The same account said over 47 civilians were killed in the attack, but that number is unconfirmed.

Abdulkader Hariri, a resident of Raqqa, live-tweeted the air strikes.

Some accounts are also uploading alleged pictures and videos of the aftermath. None of the photos are confirmed, and Islamist sympathizers of Hamas and Palestine have posted similar pictures in the past to smear Israel, the majority of which were old photos of the Syrian Civil War. The images and videos below are not yet confirmed to be authentic.

ISIS supporters and members raged against the air strikes, even though the terrorist group is invading Syria and Iraq and liquidating anyone who disagrees with their jihad. They also call the five Arab nations who participated “apostates,” which implies the countries abandoned Islam. The punishment for committing apostasy is death.
