A website has reported that Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan has an estimated net worth of $100 million dollars. Jonathan, seemingly aware that this finding may have tarnished his reputation as the proverbial “man of the people,” has threatened to sue the richestlifestyle.com site.
The BBC has noted that the website has since removed Jonathan’s name from its “richest leaders” list.
The Nigerian President’s office said Wednesday that Jonathan’s real wealth is a “very, very far cry from $100m figure now being bandied about by richestlifestyle.com and other irresponsible, copy-cat publications.”
The statement continued: “He has had no personal income since 1999 other than his official remuneration as deputy governor, governor, vice president, acting president and president which are matters of public record.”
Jonathan has also been criticized on the national security front. Some have accused the president of neglectfully responding to the threat from the Boko Haram Islamic terror group. The jihadi outfit now controls a swath of northern Nigeria, and has announced the establishment of a caliphate in areas it controls.
Separately, Nigerian officials announced Thursday that the Ebola virus is now nonexistent in the country. The country’s Commissioner for Health described Nigeria’s victory over Ebola: “This is how we won the fight against Ebola virus. We swiftly worked together as a country when we discovered cases of the virus. The people of Nigeria were very cooperative. They followed the instructions that were given.” President Jonathan declared a national emergency after initially hearing that an Ebola case had come to Nigeria. He then ordered the shutting down of all schools and health officials reportedly successfully quarantined all who came in contact with the infected patient.
