Jerry Brown Pardons Marijuana Convicts

More than two-thirds of the 63 pardons issued by California Gov. Jerry Brown on Friday were for drug-related crimes, including "selling, transporting or manufacturing" marijuana, the Sacramento Bee reports.

The pardons came on Apr. 18, just two days ahead of "4/20 Day," celebrated across the state and the world as an international day of culture and activism around marijuana use and legalization.

Pardons were granted to those who Brown said had "lived an honest and upright life, exhibited good moral character," the Bee reports.

Brown has previously indicated that he opposes marijuana legalization, though his state Democratic Party is running on legalization in the 2014 elections.
