Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti won’t have to sing “New York, New York” on Jimmy Kimmel Live on Monday Night, because the Los Angeles Kings defeated the New York Rangers to capture the Stanley Cup. However, he should have to wash out his mouth with soap for dropping the F-Bomb on the live broadcast of the Kings victory party at the Staples Center on Monday.
The Daily News reported that Garcetti appeared at the wild and celebratory event at the Staples Center, home to the Los Angeles Kings, with thousands of fans cheering for their hockey heroes. “There are two rules in politics,” he exclaimed, holding on to his bottle of beer. “They say never, ever be pictured with a drink in your hand, and never swear — but this is a big f—— day.”
Although many fans approved of Garcetti blurting out the vulgarity, Fox Sports, who was televising the event was not very happy about it and immediately apologized for the remark. “On behalf of Fox Sports West, we’d like to apologize for the inappropriate language heard earlier back inside.”
Whitney Burak, a spokesman for Fox Sports West, explained that the network has censors, but they were caught off guard because they never expected the Mayor to use such a word. “Obviously, we didn’t know he was going to do that,” she said.
As a result of a bet between Garcetti and New York Mayor Bill de Blasio, the NYC mayor will be singing Randy Newman’s “I Love L.A.” on Kimmel’s program due to the Rangers losing the contest.
