Giants 10, Braves 1
Madison Bumgarner (4-1) struck out 11 in limiting the Braves lineup to four hits, as San Francisco put themselves in position to win the four game series with a 10-1 rout of Atlanta Saturday.
Braves starter Paul Maholm (4-4) got shelled for six runs and eight hits in less than five innings. Gregor Blanco drove in four runs, including three as a pinch hitter, to lead the Giants.
Cubs 8, Nationals 2
Stephen Strasburg gave up four unearned runs in five innings and the rusty Washington bullpen gave up another four earned runs in a lopsided loss to Chicago. The loss drops Strasburg to 1-5 on the year.
Former Nat Edwin Jackson allowed two runs in 5 1/3 innings to earn his first win of the year. He also struck the big blow against Strasburg, a two out, two-run double with two out in the fifth. Jackson’s hit followed a throwing error by Ryan Zimmerman, the first of two on the day by the Nats’ third baseman.
The rubber game of the series will be Sunday.
Pirates 11, NY Mets 2
Francisco Liriano got his first win of the season, Jordy Mercer homered twice and the Pirates beat New York Saturday night.
Jonathon Niese (2-4) struggled, allowing eight runs and getting knocked out early, blowing the game open.
LA Dodgers 7, Marlins 1
Andre Ethier had four hits, including a pair of doubles, as the Dodgers won the battle of the two division cellar dwellers with a 7-1 win over Miami.
LA snapped an eight game losing streak behind Hyun-Jin Ryu (4-2). Kewvin Slowey (1-3) gave up five runs in 4 2/3 innings for the Marlins.
Phillies 3, Arizona 1
Cliff Lee won his third game of the season, Jonathan Papelbon notched his sixth save and the Phillies picked up a game on the rest of the division with a 3-1 win in Arizona.
Lee also had three sac bunts. Jimmy Rollins had two hits and drove in two runs for the Phillies. Trevor Cahill (2-4) allowed three hits and one run in five innings for the tough-luck loss.
