Report: Three Navy Football Players Under Investigation for Sexual Assault

Three football players with the Naval Academy are under investigation for sexual assault stemming from an incident in February of 2012. The original complaint that spawned an NCIS investigation had been withdrawn four months later only to be re-submitted this past February.

At this point, names remain unknown. According to NBC News’s sources, it is “alleged that the victim and the three students had been drinking when she reportedly had sex with one of them, her boyfriend, in the back seat of a car …The other two then allegedly had sex with the woman.”

“Naval Academy leadership is monitoring the progress of thisinvestigation and evaluating the appropriate options for adjudication,”Naval Academy spokesman Cmdr. John Schofield said in a statement. “Itis completely inappropriate to make any other public comment on thisinvestigation or any ongoing investigation as we risk compromising themilitary justice process.”

News of the investigation follows a string of sexual assault allegations against members of the military that even prompted President Obama touch on the growing number of incidences during his speech at the graduation ceremony on May 24.
