Nadal Wins 2013 Western & Southern Open

Rafael Nadal won another title this summer when he defeated top American John Isner at the Western & Southern Open in Cincinnati, OH. He won in Montreal last week and this is the first time he has won back-to-back hard-court tournaments in his career.

The 27-year-old won 7-6(8), 7-6(3) despite Isner’s fantastic serves. He had to win it in tiebreaks and never received a break point the entire match.

Nadal is 53-3 this season, which includes winning his eighth French Open title. He was knocked out of Wimbledon in the first round, but that barely registers on the map since he remains so dominant. He has been in the finals in 11 of the last 12 tournaments. He missed several months after injuring both knees at Wimbledon in 2012.

Even though Isner lost this tournament was one of his best this week. He defeated #1 Novak Djokovic in the quarterfinals and Juan Martin del Potro in the semifinals. He dropped out of the top 20, but will be back after this tournament.

Both players will be at the US Open in New York, which starts on Monday, August 26th
