Longest Hockey Game Ever

Longest Hockey Game Ever

It may have seemed like the ECHL hockey game was never going to end. Lasting 7 periods taking 5-1/2 hours to complete, the game goes down into the record books as one of the longest hockey games ever.

The East Coast Hockey League (ECHL) game between the Idaho Steelheads and Colorado Eagles featured a staggering 155 shots on goal with Steelheads goalie Josh Robinson stopping 83 of 86 pucks smashed his way.

After the game, Robinson said the whole thing was a blur.

“It’s completely a blur. Just focus on the puck. I wasn’t thinking at all. It’s the only way to do it. You can’t let yourself get in your head,” the goalie said.

After the win, the Steelheads advanced to the Western Conference finals to face Alaska.

By comparison, the longest NHL game ever was between the Detroit Red Wings and the Montreal Maroons from way back in 1936. It took the Red Wings 176 minutes to score over the Maroons.

Late in January a girls hockey game in Saskatchewan lasted just over three hours breaking into eight overtime periods. In that contest, the Elrose Aces beat the Rosetown Red Wings 1-0.
