Novak Djokovic Beats Grigor Dimitrov, Reaches Wimbledon Final

Novak Djokovic defeated Grigor Dimitrov 6-4, 3-6, 7-6(7), 7-6(9) to advance to the 2014 Wimbledon final on Sunday.

Djokovic was the clear favorite, but Dimitrov once again showed why he may win a Grand Slam in the near future. He fought against Djokovic and never showed an ounce of fear while playing one of the game’s greats. Dimitrov hit 48 winners, which was more than Djokovic’s total, but unforced errors and double faults ultimately did him in. 

In the fourth set, Dimitrov was up 6-3 in the tiebreak and had his first set point. But Djokovic grabbed the ball, bounced it a few times, took a deep breath, and slammed home an ace to erase it. And just like that, Djokovic regained his confidence and easily erased three more set points to win the match.

“It was a tough match overall,” Djokovic told the BBC while releasing a sigh of relief. “Overall, I am just glad to make another Wimbledon final.”

Djokovic will face the winner of the Roger Federer-Milos Raonic match.
