To Boldly Go Where No Male Has Gone: SI Cover for Little Leaguer Mo'Ne Davis

Mo’Ne Davis has achieved something none of her male counterparts wearing a Little League uniform ever could.

The Mo’Ne Davis Sports Illustrated cover has arrived. And the magazine comes just in time to jinx the 13-year-old as she takes the mound tonight at 7:30 p.m. Eastern on ESPN.

Her team plays one from Nevada in the Little League World Series on national television. The Philadelphia little leaguer, who throws 70 miles per hour, held the opposing team scoreless on Friday. Davis, the only girl to pitch a shutout in a Little League World Series game, joins fewer than two dozen other females to ever play in the tournament.

Other teenagers gracing SI covers include Washington Nationals outfielder Bryce Harper (16), tennis phenom Jennifer Capriati (13), and Texas high school pitching ace Jon Peters (18), who subsequently blew out his rotator cuff.

Davis hopes for a future on the hardwood rather than the diamond. “I want to play basketball,” the 64-inch, 111-pounder, who wishes to play at UConn and then in the WNBA, told SI. “And I could also do both basketball and baseball, but I really want to play basketball.”
