Braves Oust GM Frank Wren after Failure to Make Playoffs

The Atlanta Braves fired general Manager Frank Wren on Monday, ending a disappointing tenure that produced only two playoff opportunities and one playoff game victory since 2007.

John Hart will take over as the interim general manager. Hart will be part of a three man “transition team” along with John Schuerholz and Bobby Cox, to find a new GM.

Sports Illustrated reported Wren’s termination one day after Atlanta was eliminated from the Wild Card race with Sunday’s 10-2 shellacking by the Mets, their eighth loss in the last ten games.

So far, the 2014 campaign for the Braves leaves them in second place in the NL East with a 76-79 record and 15 games behind the Washington Nationals.

“It’s disappointing,” said Wren, who becomes the first general manager fired by the Braves since 1990. “I think we had a club we thought could go into the postseason and have a good chance because of our pitching.”
