Suicide bomber kills south Yemen army chief

A Yemeni army commander leading the fight against al Qaeda has reportedly been killed in a suicide bombing in the port city of Aden. Four others also died in the attack.

The suicide bomber struck in a residential neighborhood near the home of Major General Salem Ali Quton, Yemen’s southern army commander, on Monday.

Quton was on his way to work when the attacker hit. The man was apparently wearing a belt laden with explosives and threw himself at the general’s vehicle.

Quton had been in charge of an offensive against al Qaeda that began a month ago to recapture territory seized by the militants.
