Obama 2012: My Administration Is Negotiating with the Taliban

From Bagram Airfield, the U.S. Air Forces Central Command in Afghanistan, May 2012 President Barack Obama said his administration was “pursuing a negotiated peace,” with the Taliban.

The president said, “We’re pursuing a negotiated peace. In coordination with the Afghan government my administration has been in direct discussions with the Taliban … Many members of the Taliban, from foot soldiers to leaders, have indicated an interest in reconciliation.”
