The treasures of an advanced society

In response to South Africa’s domestic violence disaster:

The health of a society may be reliably measured by how well it treasures its women.  Abandoning them with children or demanding government-subsidized contraception, so they can be more easily treated as recreational devices, isn’t so great either.  There are many ways to cultivate a bad culture; fewer paths to the nourishment of a good one.  And the volume of shame swirling through a culture does not diminish just because people refuse to feel it.
