Drone Strikes Okay, Drug Testing Welfare Recipients, Not So Much

Hard times for Florida's Governor, Rick Scott. Last week Scott ticked off grassroots conservatives in the Sunshine State when it was learned that he would not block the Medicaid expansion built into ObamaCare. And now, as the Sun-Sentinal reports, "an Atlanta appeals court has upheld a decision to stop enforcement of a Florida law to drug test welfare recipients."

ACLU - 1 Rick Scott - 0

Almost immediately after the strongly worded decision, Gov. Scott issued an official statement stating that he plans to take the case all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court:

“The court’s ruling today is disturbing," he said. "Welfare is 100 percent about helping children. Welfare is taxpayer money to help people looking for jobs who have children. Drug use by anyone with children looking for a job is totally destructive. This is fundamentally about protecting the well being of Florida families. We will protect children and families in our state, and this decision will be appealed to the Supreme Court.”

The ACLU argued that it was "unfair" to target qualifying individual for drug tests when there was no reasonable suspicion of drug use. A federal judge in Florida who initially halted enforcement of the law said the measure was potentially in violation of the search and seizure provision in the U.S. Constitution.

So let me get this straight. It's okay to blow up American citizens halfway around the world, who have "suspected" terrorist ties, but you better not think about drug testing welfare recipients here at home?

I don't understand the Civil Liberties Left. On one hand they're spending time and money in court to stop the drug testing of welfare recipients, but are largely silent on the Obama White House's logic that it's okay to blow up American citizens with unmanned drones. The law seems fair to me. If these people aren't using drugs and they want to take advantage of public assistance, so what if they're asked to pee in a cup?
