Three-Quarters of Americans Underestimate Teachers' Salaries

According to a new Rasmussen Reports poll, three-quarters of Americans believe teachers’ incomes are lower than they really are. Seventy-four percent of Americans are convinced that teachers make less than $55,000, which is the average teacher’s salary across the country.

These beliefs have consequences; the same poll shows 52% of Americans believe teachers do not make enough money. Only 15% think teachers are making too much money and 26% think teachers make the right salary.

In Chicago, the average teacher’s salary is $75,000.
