After Mitt Romney officially announced that he wasn’t running for president in 2016, news quickly surfaced that he would be having dinner with Chris Christie this evening, according to the New York Times.

That puts Christie in the spotlight for Romney’s wealthy donors who may be looking for an alternative candidate to Jeb Bush.

Mitt Romney met with Jeb Bush earlier this month in Idaho, calling it a “previously scheduled social meeting between two friends.”

A senior Romney aide at the time suggested that it was a cordial meeting.

“They’re not best buddies, but they have great, great respect for each other,” the adviser said after the meeting.
