Fraternity Admits Racist Chant Was Taught to Members

There will never be a nigger SAE. There will never be a nigger SAE . You can hang him from a tree, but he will never sign with me. There will never be a nigger SAE.

According to two of the racist frat boys identified as the crooners of the charming ditty above, “Yes, the song was taught to us.” That news, obviously, is even more disturbing than video of a bunch of white, privileged college kids in tuxedos and evening dresses chanting like the Ku Klux Klan in tuxedos and evening dresses.

Per ABC News, the fraternity admits, “Our investigation has found very likely that the men learned the song from fellow chapter members, which reiterates why Sigma Alpha Epsilon did not hesitate to close the chapter completely because of the culture that may have been fostered in the group.”

The video is shocking. Nevertheless, a single revolting incident of spoiled frat boys and their dates caught on video spewing racism means little more than a few days of cable news fodder; a chance for talking heads and columnists everywhere to show off their latest booster shot of moral superiority.

Expel the punks. Move on.

What makes this story different and deeply disturbing is the idea that a chant about keeping black people out of a national fraternity is “taught” within that fraternity. Sigma Alpha Epsilon (SAE) is a national fraternity. The chant is about the fraternity. Specifically, the chant is about keeping black students out of the fraternity.

SAE has some major housecleaning to do.
