Chicago Weekend Violence: Two Killed, 16 Shot, Including 7-Year-Old Girl

Friday started Chicago’s weekend off on a bloody note with four citizens shot, including a 7-year-old girl, authorities report. By Saturday the tally increased to 16 shot and two killed, one in a police-involved shooting.

To start the weekend, a 7-year-old girl and a man were shot on Friday night on the city’s violence-prone South Side.

A 32-year-old man was shot as he sat in his car by two men who walked up to the vehicle. The man had his 7-year-old daughter in the car and she was also injured. The girl, who was shot in the arm, and her father were treated and released by Saturday morning.

As the weekend continued, by Saturday evening the total had been raised to 16 shootings, including an incident on West Lexington Street where a 34-year-old man and his 28-year-old companion were shot as they sat in a car.

A dozen other incidents across the city, most on the city’s South Side, continued throughout Saturday.

One of those incidents on Saturday was a police-involved shooting.

At 1:30AM on Saturday, Chicago Police Officers witnessed a vehicle pull up to another car on the corner of 23rd and Wood streets in the Heart of Chicago neighborhood. The officers saw the occupants fire shots and then take off.

The officers gave chase and engaged in a gun battle with the occupants of the car, killing one of those in the vehicle. The two officers also received non-life threatening injuries.
