After San Bernardino, Jerry Brown Still Off to Paris

California Gov. Jerry Brown is not yet canceling plans to attend the UN climate change conference in Paris, despite Wednesday’s mass shooting in San Bernardino.

“We’ll update the advisory if there are schedule changes,” Deputy Spokesperson Gareth Lacy told Breitbart News. Brown did cancel the Christmas tree lighting, originally scheduled for Wednesday, after the shooting.

Friday is Brown’s first scheduled day in Paris, where he is due to begin by speaking at a gathering of “subnational” governments. UN Secretary-General Ban-ki Moon will participate. He is also scheduled to speak and/or participate in a variety of other events through next Wednesday. He will be joined at the Paris conference by several other California political leaders, all Democrats.

On Wednesday, Brown issued a statement in which he said: “California will spare no effort in bringing these killers to justice.”

The motives of the San Bernardino killers are still–officially–unclear, though both were Muslim and appear to have planned for large-scale attack, using a variety of guns and possible explosive devices, and filming the entire attack with GoPro cameras. The FBI said late Wednesday that the attack may have been terrorism, but has not confirmed that, pending further investigation.

President Barack Obama has been criticized for saying that climate change is a greater danger than terrorism, and for claiming that the Paris climate change conference is an answer to terrorists from the so-called Islamic State who attacked Paris last month.
