Alabama state Representative Mack Butler (R-Etowah County) has introduced legislation to guarantee concealed carry on college and university campuses.

State law currently allows campus carry but leaves college and university administrations the leeway to prohibit it at schools in their various systems. Butler’s bill removes administrations’ ability to disarm law-abiding citizens with concealed carry permits, thereby guaranteeing that the right to keep and bear arms cannot be infringed just because a permit holder is sitting in a classroom instead of a restaurant.

According to WKRG, Butler said, “There are just not enough police officers to be everywhere and this would allow you to protect yourself.” He added, “Heaven forbid something happen but you would have the opportunity.”

“Every single one of these mass shootings, the target has been a gun-free zone and my goal has been to remove as many of these zones as possible,” stated Butler.

Butler’s bill has seven co-sponsors.
