New Jersey Governor Chris Christie is sticking with his pro-abortion talking points in cases of rape and incest, saying that that a woman has the right to defend herself from the child with an abortion.
“To be forced to have the child is not appropriate and that it can be an act of self defense for her to end that,” Christie said during a town hall in Manchester, New Hampshire.
Christie acknowledged that some in the pro-life movement disagreed with that, but compared a baby conceived in rape to a criminal breaking into his home.
“If someone came into my house with a gun, even though I believe every life is precious and tried to commit an act of crime on me, I could act in self defense to end that life, and not be at all inconsistent with my pro-life position,” he said.
Pro-life leaders criticized Christie’s argument during Saturday’s ABC News debate, where he said that abortion was an act of self defense in cases of rape and incest.
But Christie repeated himself on the trail, insisting that it was what he believed “in his heart” and reminding crowds that even Ronald Reagan believed in abortions in cases of rape and incest.
