LANDOVER, Md. (AP) — Police in Maryland say a police officer has been shot and that there might be an “active shooter” outside the Landover police station in Prince George’s County, a suburb of Washington, D.C.

Police posted a message Sunday afternoon on Twitter asking residents to avoid the area and to stay inside.

Prince George’s County Assistant Fire Chief Alan Doubleday told The Washington Post that one person was transported to the hospital with a gunshot wound and a second person was transported by police.

Police officials did not immediately respond to messages from The Associated Press.

The condition of the officer who was shot, and other details, were not immediately released by authorities.
