Trump Team: ‘No Decision Yet’ on IRS Commissioner

President-elect Donald Trump’s spokesman Jason Miller says Trump hasn’t decided yet whether to name a new IRS commissioner or keep current John Koskinen on for the rest of his term, which continues after President Obama leaves the White House next month.

“No decision yet on that front. Obviously, this is an important one considering all of the issues the American taxpayers have had with the IRS, so as soon as we have an announcement or if we’re allowed to put out some of the potential news on that front, we will. But, no decision on that front has been made yet,” Miller told reporters on Monday.

An impeachment bill, which was blocked earlier this month, charged Koskinen with the following:

  • Engaged in a pattern of conduct that is incompatible with his duties as an officer of the United States by failing to respond to lawfully issued congressional subpoenas;
  • Engaged in a pattern of deception that demonstrates his unfitness to serve by making a series of false and misleading statements to Congress in contravention of his oath to tell the truth;
  • Acted in a manner inconsistent with the trust and confidence placed in him as an officer of the United States; and
  • Failed to act with competence and forthrightness in overseeing the investigation into IRS targeting of Americans because of their political affiliations.

Koskinen has admitted that the IRS mismanaged tax-exempt applications from tea party groups.
