‘Sanctuary Senator’ Website Targets Jeff Flake’s Immigration Record

Amid reports of White House meetings with potential GOP challengers to Sen. Jeff Flake, candidate and former Arizona State Senator Dr. Kelli Ward has launched SanctuarySenator.com, a site dedicated to highlighting Flake’s positions on immigration and border policies.

Dr. Ward said:

Marco Rubio is ten times the politician that Jeff Flake is and he couldn’t even find an acceptable answer for his participation in the Gang of 8 amnesty scheme. Sanctuary Senator Flake is the weakest member of the open borders establishment that Republican voters overwhelmingly rejected by nominating President Trump. SanctuarySenator.com will expose how out of touch Flake is with Republican voters.

The website hones in on Flake’s participation in the notorious “Gang of Eight,” immigration bill,  support for Obama-era moves to expand America’s guest worker program and Obama’s executive amnesty, and criticism of President Donald Trump’s border wall push.

A compilation of video clips recounts Flake’s public statements, including those on immigration and border security. Ward said of the video, “We have him attacking President Trump, admitting that he voted against Trump and for Evan McMullin, pushing open borders, allying himself with Chuck Schumer and Dick Durbin and even advocating for ‘common sense gun control.’”

The simple site offers visitors the opportunity to sign a petition to “stop Jeff Flake and sanctuary cities,” sign up for updates, and donate to Ward for Senate.

The Ward campaign has also pointed to reports that President Trump has previously indicated a willingness to spend $10 million of his own money backing a Flake primary challenger. Politico reported that he made such a statement while backstage at his campaign rally last fall.

Ward hinted at signs of momentum for her campaign and recent “productive trips” to Washington, D.C. and New York. The Ward campaign pointed reporters to recent Morning Consult polling that lists Flake among the three least popular Senators in the United States. The other two are fellow Arizona Republican Senator John McCain and Kentucky Republican Senator Mitch McConnell.

The former Arizona state senator and osteopathic physician challenged Sen. John McCain for his seat in the U.S. Senate in 2016. McCain came away with just 51 percent of the vote, while Ward won a higher percentage of votes than McCain challenger J.D. Hayworth did in his 2010 primary campaign.

The White House has been meeting with potential Flake replacements, according to Politico. The report stated that three such individuals, including Ward, have had conversations with either Trump or other White House officials.
