Trailer Talk: 'The Hangover Part III' Promises Human, Animal Cruelty

The Hangover Part II proved instructive in ways the filmmakers never intended.

It reminded us that some directors think a bit too highly of their own work – director Todd Phillips compared the film to The Godfather Part II in terms of consistency of vision. It also made us rewatch the first Hangover and realize it wasn’t as profoundly funny as we first thought.

Which brings us to The Hangover Part III, what promises to be the final chapter in the tales from the Wolfpack. Bradley Cooper, Ed Helms and Zach Galifianakis are back in Vegas, baby, and the film’s new teaser trailer suggests a montage of reunions, animal cruelty and other R-rated antics.

We’ll likely get an “official” trailer in the coming weeks, but the first snippet shows the cast and crew are serious about ending matters on a high note. We want a Hangover film to deliver big laughs, and the giraffe meets bridge sequence delivers–with a wince. And the sight of Melissa McCarthy and Galifianakis together could make us forget how routine the first sequel proved to be.

The Hangover Part III hits theaters May 24.
