Seth MacFarlane accepted the Louis XIII Genius Award at the Critics’ Choice Television Awards Sunday night and used his acceptance speech to bash Duck Dynasty, himself, and his own hit television show.

“Let’s not forget I’m being declared a genius on a network that airs Duck Dynasty, a show whose cast members believe hurricanes are created by gay marriage,” MacFarlane said during the A&E-aired program.

“I don’t win a ton of awards, so this is going to look great next to my soccer participation trophy,” the Family Guy creator joked. “The word [genius] gets thrown around a lot, which is good because otherwise I probably wouldn’t be getting this.”

MacFarlane also poked fun at his own show: “I want to thank the people at Fox who years ago took a chance on a quirky little animated show about a bumbling dad and his family – which I saw and then created Family Guy.”

Actress Charlize Theron presented MacFarlane with his award. The duo co-starred in last year’s A Million Ways to Die in the West, which Theron jokingly called a “$40 million excuse to make out with me.”

“I’m very grateful,” MacFarlane concluded. “If my work has made the world even a tiny bit better – I would be incredibly surprised.”

The Critics’ Choice Television Awards are handed out by the Broadcast Television Journalists Association. FX’s The Americans picked up the award for Best Drama Series, while HBO’s Silicon Valley took home the prize for Best Comedy Series. View the full winners list here.
