Thatgamecompany’s 2012 Playstation 3 adventure game Journey will be released for the PlayStation 4 on July 21, 2015. The game features cross buy, meaning that gamers who have already bought it for the PlayStation 3 will get a free download for the PlayStation 4 version.
Thatgamecompany invites players to share their experience in Journey with #OurJourney; statements from other gamers can be viewed here.
Players do not have lives or scores in Journey. Instead, “like thatgamecompany’s other works, Journey is more an emotional investment than a game.” Travel and exploration are the focus of the game, and players rely on jumping, communicating, and walking to reach a mountain summit. The player’s character wears a magical cloak that can be powered by shouting and can complete their journey alone or with other random players.
Journey was well-received upon release in 2012, garnering a 92% Metacritic score.
