SIGN OUR PETITION TO KEEP ANDREW ON THE HUFFINGTON POST
Dear Reader,
Can you take 10 seconds and stand up for free speech against the hypocrites who hate it?
Radical groups like Color Of Change want to silence the political speech of anyone who doesn’t agree with them. You’ve felt the frustration watching them preach “tolerance” one minute and then shut down views they don’t like the next. Now’s your chance to do something about it!
Today, Color of Change is gloating over their “victory” in pressuring the Huffington Post to remove Andrew Breitbart from their front page. Andrew wrote two blog posts at that site in the last couple of weeks, defending the Tea Party and calling out White House hypocrisy. That didn’t sit well with the censors at Color of Change, who started a petition campaign to silence him.
At first, the Huffington Post took a stand for free speech, saying it “welcomed voices from all sides of the political spectrum.”
A day later, it surrendered.
No one was convinced by the Huffington Post’s excuse–that they were upholding “civil discourse.” Bloggers called that “Huffpocracy,” given some of the truly disgusting things said by the site’s normal stable of front-page bloggers. Of course, the Huffington Post should be free to determine what to feature on its front page. But that’s not what happened here.
Instead, for the first time in its history, the Huffington Post decided to single out a specific writer because of political pressure–and the race card. That doesn’t just affect the Huffington Post. It has a “chilling effect” on other media and other voices as well. Which is exactly why Color of Change is celebrating. It’s time to say no to these aggressive bullying tactics. We need to tell the Huffington Post exactly what we think of their failure to stand up for themselves.
Below is the text of the message we’ll deliver to Arianna Huffington on your behalf:
Dear Ms. Huffington,
I am disappointed by your decision to surrender to pressure from Color of Change.
You could have stood by your commitment to present diverse views. Instead, you gave in to the worst kind of political intimidation.
You can’t have it both ways. You can’t silence one side and pretend you stand for free speech.
You’re either on the side of open debate, or on the side of the bullies who want to close it down.
Sincerely,
Your Name
