Israel Embassy Worker Resigns Over Remarks to ‘Take Down’ UK Lawmakers

An Israel embassy employee in London has resigned after being caught conspiring to discredit British politicians he perceived as unfriendly to Israel.

Film footage released on Sunday revealed Shai Masot talking about “taking down” British MPs he considered as hostile to Israel, including Alan Duncan, the Deputy Foreign Minister. Duncan was “doing a lot of problems,” he added, before calling foreign office chief Johnson an “idiot” and mocking “crazy” opposition Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn and his “weirdo” supporters.

The Foreign Ministry said Thursday that his resignation was offered two days ago in response to the exposé.

As Breitbart Jerusalem reported, the Israel embassy unreservedly apologized for the smears, saying in a statement it “rejects the remarks concerning Minister Duncan, which are completely unacceptable”.

“The comments were made by a junior embassy employee who is not an Israeli diplomat, and who will be ending his term of employment with the embassy shortly,” it added.

Ambassador Mark Regev apologised personally to Duncan, according to the embassy. Britain’s Foreign Office confirmed they had received an apology, and that it now considered “the matter closed”.

The Guardian reported that the footage was part of a wider project recording conversations with Israeli embassy staff, British politicians and pro-Israel supporters, aired in a series of documentaries that Al-Jazeera broadcast from January 15.

A UK civil servant who took part in the conversation, Maria Strizzolo, has also resigned from her post at the Skills Funding Agency.

Masot is a former officer in the Israeli navy.
