Joe Biden: We Weren't Told They Wanted More Security in Benghazi

Following Joe Biden’s angry, arrogant denials of any knowledge of requests for more security at Benghazi in the months leading up to the attack, the White House contends that Biden speaks “only for himself and President Obama.”

In other words, the post-debate spin is that Biden wasn’t really denying that security requests were made. Rather, he was only saying that those requests weren’t made to him or to Obama. Biden’s exact words: “We weren’t told they wanted more security. We did not know they wanted more security there.”

Obama’s Deputy National Security Advisor for Communications Ben Rhodes is backing Biden up on this claim.

But this claim requires “a suspension of disbelief.” It forces us to assume that in all the meetings Sec. of State Clinton and other State Dept officials had with Obama and Biden in the months before the attacks, the pleas for security from men like Eric Nordstrom and Lt. Col. Andy Wood were never brought up.  

Nordstrom says the requests for security were widespread, and he specifically named [Deputy Assistant Secretary of State] Charlene Lamb as the individual who urged him to quiet down because of “political cost.”

In short, the White House claims to know nothing about security requests flooding into Sec. Clinton’s office are about as believable as the White House claiming to know nothing about the 2,500 guns that were sold illegally in the U.S. and walked across the Mexican border in Fast and Furious.

The buck has to stop somewhere. And if the president’s not in charge, then who is?
