The “Miss Hitler” pageant was canceled after Vkontakte, Russia’s Facebook, deleted the page. George Lobushkin, VKontakte’s head of public relations, told Vocativ the group was deleted “due to calls to violent actions.”
The contest encouraged women from Ukraine and Russia to submit a selfie and describe why they love Adolf Hitler. The woman with the most “likes” would win the title of “Miss Ostland 2014” for the area Nazi Germany controlled in Europe. She would also win a plethora of Nazi memorabilia.

Lobushkin said the website’s Terms of Service “prohibit[s] site users from loading, storing, publishing, disseminating, making available or otherwise using any information which: propagandizes and/or contributes to racial, religious, ethnic hatred or hostility, propagandizes fascism or racial superiority.”
Aleksandr Anderson, the owner of the Miss Hitler page and other pro-Hitler pages, asked a VKontakte agent why his page was shut down. Vocativ reports:
Translation: Aleksandr Anderson: Why did they block my group Adolf Hitler? It can’t be the order of Roskomnadzor. It’s written because of orders for violence? What kind of calls for violence were there???
VKontakte Agent: Your question is being looked into. Unfortunately, you have to wait.
Aleksandr Anderson: Then why has there already been a response, if the question is being looked into?
Aleksandr Anderson: Why aren’t you responding?
VKontakte Agent: Aleksandr, you have to wait. I will write you when there’s news.
A woman from Belarus said she admires Hitler “because he experimented on people.” Another in Ukraine posts Hitler quotes on all of her social media accounts. A Russian woman said that “Adolf Hitler’s position is genius and true, that races are different not only in appearance, but also in intelligence.”
