PITTSBURGH, Nov. 30 (UPI) — Could the Pittsburgh Pirates sell the 2013 National League MVP?

The team “continues to explore deals involving” center fielder Andrew McCutchen, according to FOX baseball insider Ken Rosenthal.

The 30-year-old hit a career-worst .256 this season and had a career-high 143 strikeouts. His 79 RBI were his fewest since 2010. McCutchen is signed through 2018, but has a $1 million buyout that season. He is due $14 million in 2017 and $14.75 million in 2018.

In October, ESPN’s Buster Olney reported that the Pirates were considering moving McCutchen to right field. MLB Network’s Jon Morosi reported Nov. 20 that the Seattle Mariners inquired on McCutchen this offseason. “Those talks with the Pirates did not advance,” according to Morosi.

Rosenthal reported that the Washington Nationals “remain interested” in McCutchen. He also reported that the Texas Rangers are “another potential trade partner.” The Pirates are also talking to other teams to gauge interest in the veteran, but are “seeking significant young talent” in return for the five-time All-Star.
