President Barack Obama racked up victories in Western states Colorado and Nevada as he swept to re-election Tuesday against Republican challenger Mitt Romney, US television networks reported.
Obama, only the second Democrat to win a four-year second term in the White House since World War II, had counted in part on strong support from the growing Hispanic population in both states.
The outcome of voting in Florida and Virginia remained unclear, based on ballots counted so far.
But even without decisive results in the two swing states, Obama was projected to win more than the 270 electoral votes needed to secure the White House, including the pivotal state of Ohio.
