Taliban suicide bombers and gunmen on Monday attacked a US base in eastern Afghanistan near the Pakistani border, officials said.
“A group of suicide bombers have attacked a US base in Torkham near the border with Pakistan,” Ahmad Zia Abdulzai, spokesman for the Nangarhar provincial governor, told AFP.
Abdulzai said fighting was ongoing between US and Afghan forces against the militants.
Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid, in a statement sent to the media, claimed responsibility for the attack.
