Dappy of N-Dubz 'triggered mob attack', court told

N-Dubz rapper Dappy triggered a “mob attack” at a petrol station when he spat at two women who refused to get into a car with him and called him “boring”, a court heard Tuesday at his trial for assault.

Dappy, 25, charged under his real name of Costadinos Contostavlos, is charged with two counts of common assault over the fracas in Surrey on February 28, 2012.

The rapper has pleaded not guilty to all the charges.

Dappy performs in N-Dubz with his cousin and X Factor judge Tulisa Contostavlos and Richard “Fazer” Rawson, as well as producing solo work, and has recently released a single with Queen guitarist Brian May.

Prosecutor Brian Stork told Guildford Crown Court Tuesday that Dappy and two friends got out of a car at a Shell garage in Woodbridge, Surrey, at about 3.30am and began talking to the women outside.

The pair refused to get into the car with Dappy and his friends, and one described him as “boring”.

Dappy called the two “sluts” and “ugly” and spat at them, but missed, then spat at another man, David Jenkins, who had tried to defend the women, the court heard.

Dappy allegedly swung a punch at Jenkins, a keen rugby player, who responded by putting him in a headlock.

After that, “it all kicked off,” the barrister said, and another group of men joined the “utterly unlawful and unjustified” attack.

Jenkins told the court he was hit by Dappy before others piled in.

“I remember one guy coming towards me and he punched me in the face and I lost all my bottom teeth across the jaw. I felt light-headed and dizzy,” Jenkins told the court.

Dappy is being tried along with two co-defendants, who also pleaded not guilty to affray, and a fourth man, who has pleaded guilty.

He has denied spitting or attacking anyone.

He told police in an interview that he went over to the girls and told them his new single with May, Rock Star, was out and that they had been rude to him.

“Someone put me aggressively into a head lock and then my security turned up to get him off of me and that was it. I was put straight into a car after that,” he said.
