US sues to block $20 bn AB InBev Modelo takeover

US antitrust authorities filed suit Thursday to block the $20.1 billion takeover of Mexican brewer Grupo Modelo by US giant Anheuser-Busch InBev.

The US Justice Department said the takeover “would substantially lessen competition in the market for beer in the United States… resulting in consumers paying more for beer and having fewer new products from which to choose.”
