An American has been rescued by Vietnamese fishermen after a week aboard a disabled yacht at sea without food, officials said Monday.
The vessel was being towed from the Philippines to Thailand when the rope snapped due to a big wave, leaving 54-year-old Kenneth Putney stranded on board, said Nguyen Duc Viet, a border guard in the southern province of Soc Trang.
“He was at sea for a week without food. His yacht was caught in the fishing net of three Vietnamese fishermen and he was rescued,” he told AFP.
Putney, who lives in the Philippines, was brought back to shore on Saturday and is “in good condition,” Viet added.
