A teary-eyed Lea Michele, star of the US television show “Glee,” has dedicated her first Teen Choice award to late co-star and boyfriend Cory Monteith.
The event Sunday marked Michele’s first public appearance since Monteith died of a heroin and alcohol overdose in July, when he was found dead in a Vancouver hotel room.
“For all of you out there who loved and admired Corey as much as I did, I promise that with your love we’re going to get through this together,” the 26-year-old told an audience in Los Angeles.
Michele won for best actress in a television comedy for her portrayal of aspiring singer Rachel Berry in the Fox musical-comedy series.
Monteith, 31, had struggled in the past with substance abuse and checked into a rehab facility in April.
He starred in “Glee” as Finn Hudson, a star high school football player who joined a motley crew of students in the glee club.
Off-screen, Monteith dated Michele, with whom he sang the show’s signature cover of Journey’s “Don’t Stop Believin’.”
The night’s big victor was the movie “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2” which took home seven wins. “Glee” and “Pretty Little Liars” dominated the television categories with four wins each.
