Las Vegas Office of GOP Senator Heller Broken into, Police Say

July 17 (UPI) — The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department said Monday it is investigating a break-in at the office of Republican Sen. Dean Heller.

Police said the break-in occurred early Saturday in Heller’s office near Durango Drive in southwest Las Vegas, the Las Vegas Sun reported.

Heller is the only Senate Republican facing re-election in 2018 in a state won by Democrat Hillary Clinton during the November presidential election.

An anonymous source told Las Vegas’ 8 News Now that someone left a threatening note for Heller during the break-in.

Heller is known for opposing the first version of the Senate’s healthcare bill drafted by Republicans. He has not yet voiced his support or opposition to the latest version of the bill, called the Better Care Reconciliation Act.

Two Republican senators — Rand Paul, R-Ky., and Susan Collins, R-Maine — have already voiced opposition to the latest version of the bill. All Democrats oppose replacing the Affordable Care Act, meaning Senate Republicans can only afford to lose two of their 52 votes.

Megan Taylor, a spokeswoman for Heller, confirmed the break-in to The Washington Post but said she could not comment because of an ongoing investigation.
